SuDs (Sustainable Drainage Systems) are drainage systems that are considered to be environmentally beneficial.
Instead of rainwater being diverted into drains and rivers and quickly as possible, they 'slow the flow' of the water allowing the landscape to better cope with large rainfall events.
They mimic natural drainage processes to reduce the amount of run-off in urban areas and to absorb pollutants from this run-off.
As well as being more aesthetically pleasing than tarmac drains, they also provide benefits to wildlife and communities.
