Encouraging participation

You can encourage more people to help at the event / attend the event by:

  • Publicising the event early and combining this with an appeal for people to help
  • Advertising planning meetings widely and encouraging participation at the meetings
  • Thinking about the timing and location of your planning meetings, and asking potential volunteers what suits them best
  • Pinning a varied list of potential tasks on a notice board and asking people to pledge a small amount of time on the day or contributions of food, raffle prizes, etc
  • Thinking about asking other local organisations to get involved: clubs (sports, Scouts, etc) businesses, places of worship, schools, existing community groups. They may have the expertise to take a major part of organising the event off your hands.

The key is making connections with those around you to raise awareness about what you’re doing and its purpose.
