Qualities of a natural leader - text intro

Leadership is not always what you think it might be.

Leadership is not about being a hero. Putting yourself at risk doesn't help anyone.

Being proactive and helping the community prepare for, respond to, and recover from a flood are skills that will foster cohesion and self-reliance, rather than waiting for or relying on government agencies or emergency services.

As a 'flood resilience champion', you will be crucial in facilitating and supporting the individual strengths of your community.

Before a flood, you'll help to ensure that as many people in the community are informed and prepared for a flood event, from knowing evacuation routes and having emergency supplies on hand, to helping build networks of contacts.

During the flood, you'll play a key role in coordinating the community's response, ensuring that everyone stays safe and that critical resources are allocated where they're needed most, as well as ensuring that nobody else puts themselves in harms way.

After a flood, you'll help the community to repair and rebuild, coordinating with local authorities, aid organisations, and other stakeholders to ensure a coordinated and effective response.
