Dealing with difficult situations

If you have difficulty coming to an agreement with someone:

  • Assess and communicate
  • Establish aim/ desired outcome
  • Consult and brainstorm solutions
  • Plan and agree
  • Provide resources

If you experience someone displaying unpleasant behaviour at an event:

  • Explain the effect of the behaviour or action - encouraging self-regulation
  • Ask them to stop based on the policies of the event / event venue - encouraging them to follow regulations
  • Explain that the next stage is to see them leave the task or event - punitive approach
  • Consult with other leaders / support - joint approach
